The two main types of sorters—horizontal sorter and vertical sorter—group boards into bundles according to your specifications.
Horizontal sorters—commonly called "tray" sorters—are an inexpensive solution for mills that deal with few different dimensions or cannot tolerate wood marking. However, horizontal sorters require ample space and cannot handle high production rates.
Carbotech International offers two types of vertical sorters: carriers—more commonly known as "C-bar" sorters—and puller or "drag" sorters. The former can handle very large pieces but at slower rates, i.e., 110 pieces or fewer per minute. The latter can sort up to 200 pieces per minute but handle a more limited range of dimensions. Both types of sorters are equipped with a system of independent pneumatic tensioners, nylon chain paths, a tube structure with a minimum thickness of 1/4", and an automatic lubrication system. Unloading arms may be added for handling shorter pieces.
